Nice!!!! You capture the feeling of youth very well in your expressive art style. I love it! I also love your use of color. It makes me feel very nostalgic for my own childhood, and when I used to read these kinds of books. I wish I were more of a reader as a kid.

Each picture of a story event beautifully captures the feel of that event. Melanie's expression when she's trying to explain her story to Mark is fantastic. Her look of fear and struggling when attempting to break free from her captor, particularly her disheveled hair, is excellent. And the look on her face as she twirls her hair with her fingers captures her boredom perfectly.

Mark's "out of it" appearance definitely fits him as a character. The only thing I'd change, though, is his outfit in the bottom-left corner. It's true that I described him as "not caring what he looks like", though to be honest, I tended to picture him as the type of kid who just throws on any old shirt and pants and calls it an outfit.

Who's the girl in the right-center picture? Kathy? She looks good too. She shows a nice contrast to Melanie.

I love the way you interpreted my characters and the story!! I really love these pictures, and can't wait to see what else you come up with!

Hey :)

Thanks for the constructive comments. That is indeed Kathy. I played with her features, giving her a sort of pixie/perky look with the little nose to contrast against Melanie. Although they are good friends, it's obvious in the way they are written that there are personality differences so i decided to make that ';physical'.

Taken on board with Mark. As I've read further into the story, I like the fact that he's a little bit of a geek & a scaredy cat ;) I can identify being that way as a child. I think for character development it also helps Melanie bring out the bravery in herself, particularly in 'That Man's House'.

The one character I wasn't sure about was Mr Collins. Not sure about his age as such. What did you picture?

I actually didn't have an exact look for Mr. Collins, and I think the one you came up with works very well. In fact, I'm not good at coming up with exact looks for characters as it is, so my descriptions tend to be a little "general". Your imagining of them is better than mine!

I really like how you made a picture for the most interesting scene of each chapter.

And to be honest, I was probably closer to Mark as a kid than the other characters, myself! Though I didn't share his interests. In fact, none of the characters actually represent me, but Mark would certainly be the closest.
